THE COMPANY

Michael Clark Company will perform an extract of come, been and gone at Laban on Friday 3 February

Michael Clark Company, based in London as Artistic Associate at the Barbican Centre, produces the work of choreographer Michael Clark. Clark was hailed by the Independent on Sunday as ‘British dance’s true iconoclast’ and he creates work that combines a classical fluency with a twisted contemporary sensibility. He is renowned for his legendary collaboration with bands, fashion designers and visual artists including Wire, BodyMap, Leigh Bowery, Trojan and Sarah Lucas.

In 2005 Michael Clark Company embarked on the Stravinsky Project, a three-year project to produce a trilogy of works to seminal dance scores by Igor Stravinsky. In June 2009 Clark premiered come, been and gone at La Biennale di Venezia. This work has toured nationally and internationally for the past 3 years to great critical acclaim including to Edinburgh International Festival, the Barbican Centre, and Melbourne International Arts Festival.

In 2010/2011 Michael Clark became the first choreographer specifically commissioned to create a work for Tate Modern’s iconic Turbine Hall. The company’s presence transformed the monumental space into an arena for experimentation and practice, foregrounding the processes ‐ both artistic and practical – behind making and performing Clark’s work.

The company continues to tour come, been and gone, and in 2012 work will begin on an ambitious new triple-bill.
